Position Development Director Full Time Position

POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Director (DD) is responsible for the Hospitality House’s (HH) fundraising efforts. The DD reports directly to and works closely with the Executive Director (ED) and communicates regularly with the Board of Directors.

The DD provides leadership, management and coordination for HH’s fundraising, Building Campaign and outreach efforts. The DD plays a lead role in identifying, cultivating and soliciting donors for the Building Campaign, and annual and planned gifts through personal contact, events, direct mail and social media outlets.

OBJECTIVES/ACTIVITIES

1. Working with the ED and the Building Campaign Steering Committee, create and implement plans for securing gifts, business sponsorship’s and grants to fulfill funding goals.

2. In conjunction with the Building Campaign goals, establish annual fundraising goals and implement an annual plan to meet or exceed operational expenses.

3. Provide coordination for meetings and detailed reports on Building Campaign and fundraising progress to ED and the Development Committee on a regular basis.

4. Maintain a proactive leadership role in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individuals and local business sponsorship’s.

5. Set annual plans and goals for foundation and government grant applications for Building Campaign and other programs.

6. Cultivate and directly solicit individual donors, working with the ED and other key volunteers as appropriate.

7. Plan and coordinate events, mailings and social media activities to achieve fundraising goals.

8. Oversee the production of brochures and sponsorship proposals required to support development efforts.

9. Research, develop, write, organize, edit, and send grant proposals to local, state, and federal government entities, and to private/corporate foundations under the guidance of the ED.

10. Cultivate relationships with granting organizations.

11. Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for the Building Campaign and HH’s mission within the funding community.

12. Ensure that all donors are immediately and appropriately thanked and receive regular reports and communications from HH.

13. Ensure that pledges, gifts, grants and other revenues are properly recorded in the donor database.

14. Maintain HH’s donor recognition in communications and on the website.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• At least 3-5 years experience with a nonprofit development program including major gift, annual and business sponsorship’s.

• Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or in a related field or the equivalent in work experience.

• Experience in organizing and implementing the following activities: annual, major and business sponsorship’s, and direct mail and special events.

• Computer literacy and a knowledge of donor database systems.

• Ability to use social media and the website for fundraising and donor cultivation.

• Outstanding interpersonal, communication, writing and public speaking skills.

• An entrepreneurial, flexible and resourceful spirit.

• A sense of humor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Requires sitting at a computer for up to 8 hours a day.

• Ability to lift 30 pounds.

• California Driver’s license with auto insurance verification.

Must be willing, and able, to work some weekends, evenings and early mornings.
