I’m Tyson Powers, and I’m the Job Placement Case Manager. My main priority is to help homeless individuals find a job that helps them transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency.
I want to share with you all a story about a guest that I will call Jacob. Jacob was living in a former care home for 10 years when one day he received an eviction notice to vacate the premises after never once missing a rental payment or causing any disturbances. Unsure what to do, 65-year-old Jacob made his way to the woods and tried to survive. During this time unsheltered, he shared that he was victimized multiple times, physically assaulted, and robbed of the little belongings he had.
Thankfully, Jacob found his way to our shelter and we are happy to share that Jacob kicked off the new year in his new permanent home!
We are so proud of Jacob. He never once gave up and always remained upbeat, despite the hardships he went through. If anyone listening right now might have an interest in helping other individuals by renting a room, studio, apartment or house, I invite you to call me today. Normally at this time we thank all the cook groups who came and cooked over the last week, but to keep our shelter safe, our cook groups are supporting our meals by donating financial support and food, and Chef Chris is safely cooking all meals instead. We’d like to thank Jazzercise, Crossroads Church (Grass Valley, CA) Dignity Health Medical Group – Sierra Nevada (Grass Valley, CA), Nevada City United Methodist Church, IFM Impastas, St. Patrick Parish Grass Valleyand The Home Team for all their help. Please drop off urgent items or mail them to Utah’s Place, located in Brunswick Basin, past the DMV, at 1262 Sutton Way in Grass Valley. For a tax receipt, please ring the doorbell and wait for someone to come outside to assist you. We greatly appreciate the community’s help at such times of uncertainty.
