Carly’s path to homelessness began long before she ever walked through the doors of Hospitality House.

She grew up in Nevada County with a single mom who worked hard but could never quite get ahead. Housing was never stable. When rent went up or money ran out, they had to move. Again, and again. Each move meant uncertainty–where to do homework, who was able to provide support, how to keep on track. By the time Carly reached high school, the instability had taken its toll. She struggled academically and emotionally, carrying the weight of constant uncertainty into adulthood.

Without a foundation of stability, it became difficult to build one on her own. Eventually, Carly found herself without housing.

Hospitality House became the turning point.

Instead of isolation, she found community. Instead of judgment, she found care. For the first time, Carly felt surrounded by people who believed in her and supported her goals. Staff and peers walked alongside her, helping her stay focused and accountable. That circle of encouragement made it possible for her to maintain her sobriety, secure a new job, and ultimately move into a place of her own.

Today, Carly works full-time. She is proud of how far she has come. But like many who are rebuilding after homelessness, she is living paycheck to paycheck. Her next goal is a stable, long-term career that provides not just income, but security and opportunity.

Carly’s story is a reminder that for some, homelessness is rooted in years of instability, not a single moment of crisis. It also shows what becomes possible when someone is brought into a community of support and given the tools to move forward.

Because of your generosity, Carly is no longer alone. She has a home, a job, and hope for a stable future.
