I am Fred Skeen with Hospitality House, which is the only emergency homeless shelter in Nevada County, with 54 beds for homeless men, women and children. The shelter is looking spiffy this week thanks to the United Way of Nevada County Day of Action where five Telestream, LLC employees labored pulling weeds, painting and weed eating. Thanks United Way and Telestream!
As a registered nurse, I work with many of our guests who have complex physical issues. One of those homeless guests is a guest I will call Manny. He is a vet who has been diagnosed with a growth on his kidney and will have surgery next week. Navigating the VA medical system is a challenge and we have been able to assist with paperwork and transportation to medical appointments.
Last week we mentioned one of our culinary graduates getting a job at Wild Eye Pub, and this week that paid position allowed him to secure housing. Congratulations to Mark!
Thanks to Mount Saint Mary’s Convent and Academy, Unity in the Gold Country Spiritual Center, Susanna Wilson and team, Mary Liebke’s “Choppers”, Abundant Life Community Church and Wolf Creek Commons Cohousing for cooking and serving delicious meals for 54 hungry homeless people this week.
