As reported on KVMR, Dec. 7, 2018:
Hospitality House is the only emergency homeless shelter in Nevada County, with 69 beds for homeless men, women and children.
I’m Rob Barker and I’m a Community Liaison at Hospitality House, helping our outreach team connect local homeless individuals to much needed services. Since October, our outreach team has worked with 107 unique individuals on the street and in camps—these are individuals not currently seeking shelter with us but who still need our support. We still have a lot of work to do, and with the cold weather, our shelter has been at max capacity every night. Last week with the rain and light snow, we opened early two days to get people inside to warm up.
With December fully upon us, it will be Christmas before we know it. Stop by our thrift store, Bread & Roses, for all your holiday needs. We even have a kids section—complete with toys and games!
As we approach 2019, we estimate we’ll need to provide nearly 44,000 meals. It’s a tall order to fill, but we know with your help, we can do it. A $50 gift will provide 50 meals! And if you donate by Dec. 15, generous donors will match every dollar.
To everyone who helped cook and provide meals last week, we thank you! And to everyone who dropped off needed items last week—thank you as well! Now down to the nitty gritty needs of the shelter for this week…
