Hospitality House is the only emergency homeless shelter in Nevada County, with 69 beds for homeless men, women and children.
I’m Frank Gates and I’m the volunteer manager at Hospitality House, working daily with amazing community members who give their time to help those in need. People volunteer with Hospitality House in a variety of fashions and we’re always looking for new volunteers who can help further our mission and services.
Bread & Roses Thrift Store, as an example, is an area of great need. The store’s purpose is to support our homeless shelter, and donations from generous people make that possible. Right now the store is mostly volunteer-based and we are so grateful for that, but we could always use more help. And if you are listening and you don’t have much time to allocate for volunteering, donations to Bread & Roses are greatly appreciated as well.
A lot of people don’t know this, but in some cases, we can even come to you for the donation. At times we’re contacted by someone who may want to donate a couch or another piece of large furniture, but they don’t have the means to get it to the store. Well, we can help. Picking up donations occurs on a case-by-case basis but I encourage anyone with questions about donations or large gifts to call Mike at the store: 530-205-9605. We are grateful for every volunteer who helps us and I want to take a moment to thank everyone who helped cook and provide meals last week: Twin Cities Church, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Veritas Church, Choppers, the Home Team, Abundant Life Community Church and Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains—thank you all! - Men’s and women’s pajamas, sizes M, L and XL
- Women’s winter boots, sizes 8 – 11
- Men’s winter coats, size L and up
- Men’s and women’s Long John’s, sizes M, L, and XL
- Band-Aids
- Shoe laces and boot laces
- Tampons
- And most importantly: thick blankets
- Cough drops
- 2 8×10 or smaller canvases for art class
Drop off your donations at Utah’s Place, located in Brunswick Basin, past the DMV, at 1262 Sutton Way. Thank you for sticking together so that we all get what we need.
