May Match

Kenneth went to school. He graduated from U.C. Riverside with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater but one awful day changed his entire life …

After church one day, Kenneth went to visit a new friend, but he was the unsuspecting victim of a hate crime.

“They wouldn’t let me leave,” recalled Kenneth. “I tried to walk out the front door and they grabbed a knife and stabbed me.”

Kenneth managed to fight off his assailant, but he was stabbed three times in the process.

“I was able to run … I jumped a fence with a knife in my back.”

Kenneth was severely injured and almost died. The trauma contributed to spiraling substance abuse and homelessness, and he finally turned to Hospitality House for help where he was met with care and compassion.

Kenneth successfully completed Alcoholics Anonymous and a program at Community Recovery Resources. In his first month at Hospitality House, he landed a new job and a plan formed to take back his life.

Today, Kenneth is in stable housing, maintains his sobriety, and has upheld the same job for three years—but more people need you.
