I’m Jessica, a shelter case manager at Utah’s Place. This week, I’d like to share about a hardworking client, Will. Due to a work-related injury and unaddressed mental health issues, Will’s life as he knew it dematerialized in quick succession over the past year.

When the injury disabled Will from returning to work, depression and other mental health issues surfaced while he healed at home. Will’s marriage became strained to the point that his wife asked him to leave. Relationships with his family had also suffered during his convalescence, and he found himself without any housing options. Homeless for the first time in his life and in need of a place to stay, Will came to Utah’s Place.

I began working with him shortly after he arrived. Together we identified his goals and planned steps to restabilize his life and relationships. Throughout our time together, Will has been motivated to do whatever it takes to reestablish the life he misses dearly. It is heartwarming to witness the evolution of his relationship with his wife as he addresses his mental health. He is being treated for his back injury and is slowly recovering.

Your support helps people like Will surpass hurdles, big and small, that hinder them from their goals of security and stability. Thank you for your support!
