Since 2005, volunteers have played an important role in advancing Hospitality House’s mission. Their dedication, compassion, and willingness to serve the community help create a welcoming and supportive environment for those in need. Today, we are proud to honor and celebrate one of our incredible volunteers: LuAnne Meyers.

LuAnne’s positivity is simply contagious. She brings a bright spirit, a deep sense of empathy, and a passion for those around her and in her community. Her commitment to improving human and animal lives is truly inspiring.

LuAnne has generously given her time and energy to Hospitality House in various roles for more than six years. Whether she’s supporting community events, helping at camp cleanups, working at the agency’s former thrift store, or organizing in-kind donations, she is always ready to lend a hand—and a warm smile. She is also a member of the Hearts & Hands club, a group of donors who contribute financially every month. Club donations are allocated toward the greatest needs each month, including but not limited to shelter, food, clothing, outreach, housing assistance, case management, transportation, and the agency’s pet program.

Over the last year, LuAnne has spent two mornings a week at Hospitality House’s administrative office, meticulously sorting and organizing community donations. She folds clothes and lifts spirits as she works. With care and attention, she ensures that the agency’s guests and clients receive high-quality, new, or gently used donations.

One of LuAnne’s greatest passions is Hospitality House’s pet program. Understanding the importance of the human-animal bond, she fiercely advocates for helping clients keep their beloved pets with them during difficult times. In years past, LuAnne, along with Hospitality House staff members, worked with local businesses and community partners to make gift bags filled with treats, food, and supplies, each wrapped with care and topped with a bow. These thoughtful gifts bring joy to pets and peace of mind to their humans.

When asked what drives her to volunteer, LuAnne humbly shared, “To be effective in life, you’ve got to contribute what is needed around you.” Her favorite part of volunteering at Hospitality House is working with the staff. She said with a smile, “It’s really valuable to be around people who have a calling to make the world a better place. It keeps me going.”

LuAnne encourages others to join in service, offering this advice: “Volunteer in some way. To make the world a better place, we just have to be more aware of each other and less aware of ourselves.” She’s also fond of the Maya Angelou quote, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

LuAnne, thank you for everything you do! Your selfless spirit, tireless commitment, and genuine kindness are a gift to Hospitality House, the people it serves, and the greater community. You help make Hospitality House a place of hope, dignity, and compassion.
