Current Volunteer Opportunities
Cook Team – URGENT NEED
Dinner team volunteers – Grab your friends and pick one night per month (or more!) to prepare dinner for our guests at Utah’s Place. Teams are made up of at least six people who donate, prepare and serve dinner for an average of 90 guests. We need dinner prepared every night, so come join the fun in the kitchen! This generally takes three to four hours per dinner, beginning around 1 PM, with food for Sierra Guest Home, our senior housing complex, ready for transport (by our transportation van) at 4:30pm and serving dinner at the shelter between 5pm and 5:30pm. Often one of our shelter guests will assist with washing dishes. Each volunteer on your cook team is required to have a ServSafe Food Handler Certificate in order to cook and serve food. The 2-hour course is online and costs $15.
Kitchen Assistant – URGENT NEED
If you’d like to volunteer in the kitchen without creating a team, you can assist our Culinary Specialist with making meals. The ServSafe Food Handlers Certificate is also necessary for this role. Generally, kitchen assistants come in one day per week for 3-4 hours. Over the course of the past fiscal year, our humble shelter kitchen served over 77,000 meals. You can help provide nourishing and comforting meals to our homeless guests.
Fundraising and Outreach
Volunteer at one of our fundraising events. We need help with setup and cleanup, pickups and deliveries, keeping programs flowing during the event and many other special needs, specific to each event. Most of these positions don’t require special skills, but if you have one that fits well with the event, please let us know! These events occur 3-4 times a year, and all need volunteers, choose which appeal to you and work into your schedule.
Enrichment
Be a part of our enrichment program by teaching and sharing your skills and passions to our guests. Enrichment happens every afternoon, at the shelter, sometime between 2 PM and 6 PM. This can be a one-time event or an ongoing class you’d like to continue teaching and each session can be as short or long as desired. This is a fabulous opportunity to get to know the homeless that live among you and enrich their lives. This area is wide open, so contact us with your ideas and we’ll see how we can make them work.
