Bed Assemblers
Utah’s Place, shelter, will be updating beds and will need bed assemblers. This includes breaking down, taking out and assembling new beds at our shelter. We ask volunteers to have some experience assembling, mainly be knowledgeable on how to use drills or hand-held tools (no cutting of any sort). Volunteers are welcome to bring battery-operated drills and bits. Volunteers can sign up for one shift or both, anything is greatly appreciated. Lunch will also be provided. Volunteers must also be able to do heavy lifting and be able to stand for the duration of the project. We are looking to recruit around 10-15 volunteers in total.
When: May 7
Location: 1262 Sutton Way, Grass Valley
Schedule: Shifts will start 8am-12pm or 12 pm- 4pm. This will be an all-day event but volunteers are welcome to sign up for both or one shift.
To confirm attendance, an RSVP is needed and can be sent out to jsolis-hernandez@hhshelter.org or by calling (530) 615-0852 no later than April 22.
Donation Door Greeters
We’re urgently looking for Donation Door Greeters to help greet donors at the door, take/accept donations, provide receipts and help with sorting. These positions will be carried out at our admin office (located at 488 Crown Point Circle, Suite 100). Needed Times and Dates: Tuesday and Thursday, 9am-12pm OR 12pm-3:00pm
Training will be provided, no experience is needed. This can be done once a week, half a shift or all shifts. We’re looking for at least 4 volunteers to cover donation dates and shifts. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a book or activity with them while they wait for donors to arrive. Extra duties may be assigned.
Kitchen Support
IMPORTANT: ALL kitchen volunteers (cook groups and individual volunteers) must obtain a ServSafe Certification before the start of volunteer service. Food Handler link: ServSafe® – ServSafe® – ServSafe Food Handler
Cook Teams – URGENT NEED
Grab your friends and pick one night per month (or more!) to prepare dinner for our guests at Utah’s Place. Teams are made up of 4-7 people who donate, prepare and serve dinner for an average of 90 guests. We need dinner prepared every night, so come join the fun in the kitchen! This generally takes three to four hours per dinner, beginning around 12 PM, with food for Sierra Guest Home, our senior housing complex, ready for transport (by our transportation van) at 4:30pm and serving dinner at the shelter between 5pm and 5:30pm. Any help with cleaning afterward is greatly appreciated.
Examples of cook group dinners:
Cook group 1: Enchilada pie, cooked carrots, cole slaw + ice cream
Cook group 2: Lasagna, garlic bread, salad + dessert
Cook group 3: Cheesy Potato Chicken plus sides
To help groups with cost of food, Hospitality House may reimburse up to $100. Reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator for more info at jsolis-hernandez@hhshelter.org
Cook Individuals – URGENT NEED
If you’d like to volunteer in the kitchen without creating a team, individual volunteers are welcome to join. Generally, kitchen volunteers come in one day per week for 3-4 hours. Over the past fiscal year, our humble shelter kitchen served over 79,344 meals. You can help provide nourishing and comforting meals to our homeless guests. URGENT NEED TIMES and dates: 9 am- 12:00pm and 12:00pm-4:30 pm Monday-Sunday.
Animal Foster
This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity and a fulfilling chance to help a furry friend in need of a temporary home. If you are interested in being an animal foster, please fill out the volunteer application above or email jsolis-hernandez@hhshelter.org.
Enrichment Classes- Teachers, Artists and Musicians
Be a part of our enrichment program by teaching and sharing your skills and passions to our guests. Enrichment happens every afternoon, at the shelter, sometime between 7 PM and 8 PM. This can be a one-time event or an ongoing class you’d like to continue teaching and each session can be as short or long as desired. This is a fabulous opportunity to get to know our homeless community that live among you and enrich their lives. This area is wide open, so contact us with your ideas and we’ll see how we can make them work. We’re currently looking for BINGO NIGHT volunteers, musicians and artists.
