I’m Danna and I’m the Medical Case Manager for Hospitality House. I connect our guests with medical services as well as handle their medical insurance needs. I also help guests who own animals connect with our Pet Program, which provides full care for animals.

This month I would like to give an update on a family who last year was heavily supported by us in accessing medical care and was successful in finding housing for their family with our added support as well. They stayed at Utah’s Place and utilized temporary housing resources through us. At this time, the mom was several months pregnant, and I assisted them in transferring their medical benefits so that she could receive the care needed for a healthy pregnancy. We continued to support them in their search for housing and fortunately they were able to secure an apartment here in town where we could still support them as needed. At present, I am happy to report that both parents have maintained employment and are still living in secure housing. Their new baby is almost a year old and is reaping the benefits of a more stable environment. They are working on bettering their credit and creating a more financially stable future for their whole family. We hope they can continue to be successful, and I will always be happy to support them in their endeavors. We’d like to thank the community for supporting this family on their journey back to stability and for continuing to help all the guests in our care at this moment, too. Normally at this time, we thank all the cook groups who came and cooked over the last week, but to keep our shelter safe, our cooking groups are supporting our meals by donating financial support and food. Our newly on-board Chef Sandro and Chef Assistant Gina are safely cooking all meals instead. We’d like to thank Wolf Creek Co-Housing, Simple Truth, St. Pat’s Sidekicks, The Home Team, Jazzercise, TCC and Crossroads Church, BriarPatch Food Co-Op and SPD Markets for all their recent help. To everyone who donated our most needed items last week, thank you as well!

Now down to the nitty gritty needs of the shelter for this week…

• Baby wipes
• PPE masks and gloves
• Blankets, twin size
• New Pillows
• Bottled water
• Women’s underwear, sizes S, M, and L
• Men’s underwear/boxers, sizes M, L, and XL
• Men’s and Women’s deodorant
• Travel bags, duffel bags and backpacks

Please drop off urgent items or mail them to Utah’s Place, located in Brunswick Basin, past the DMV, at 1262 Sutton Way in Grass Valley. For a tax receipt, please ring the doorbell and wait for someone to come outside to assist you. We greatly appreciate the community’s help at such times of uncertainty. In the words of Utah Phillips, “If we all stick together, we’ll get what we need.” Thank you!
