Hello, I’m Mark, the shelter manager at Utah’s Place. This week, I’d like to highlight one of our guests, Jake.
During his stay at the shelter, Jake has gone above and beyond to help with chores as they crop up. His hard work and positive attitude are rays of sunshine for me and many others at Utah’s Place. Jake primarily assists Chef Will in the kitchen, prepping and cooking meals for over 70 people each night. When he began, I was surprised that he cooked as well as he did. It quickly became apparent to me that he was passionate about cooking and had a real knack for it. I encouraged him to use his skills professionally and contacted a friend of mine at Marias’s Mexican Restaurant who offered him a dishwashing job.
Jake is thriving in his new job, earning income and making real progress returning to a home of his own.
It’s great to see guests realize their potential on their pathways to housing.

• Twin-size bed sheets (urgent need)
• Soap (liquid or bar)
DONATION HOURS AND DROP-OFF LOCATION: Donations from our needs list above and all unexpired/store-bought foods are accepted at Utah’s Place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am – 3:30pm and Saturdays from 10am – 2pm. Our shelter is located at 1262 Sutton Way, Grass Valley, CA 95945.
