“This event is vital,” said Nancy Baglietto, executive director of Hospitality House. “Lack of affordable housing in our community is a serious, ongoing problem that directly correlates to homelessness. Hundreds of people are without homes right now and coupled with the added challenges of the pandemic and wildfires, Empty Bowl is an opportunity to ban together as a community to create lasting impact for those who need it most.”

In 2020, with the community’s help, Hospitality House provided 70,892 meals (nearly double all of 2019); served 639 unique homeless individuals; and helped 234 people reach housing destinations. Empty Bowl is an opportunity to further these efforts in 2021. Additional donations are always welcome.

Dozens of artists, including renowned artists Dik Hotchkiss, Chic Lotz, Yvon Dockter, Mindy Oberne, Penny St. Clair, Paul Steege, Bob Davis, Carlos Angulo, Karl Miller, Randy Panos and many more, have come together to make the event possible by creating and donating hundreds of handcrafted ceramic and wooden bowls. In addition, local restaurants have come forward to each host Empty Bowl at their individual venues, donating their food and staff time.

NEW FORMAT – NO LARGE GATHERING

The community has an opportunity to participate in Empty Bowl for as many days as they’d like throughout September. Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 1, each week one to two local restaurants will each host Empty Bowl at their own restaurants, preparing gourmet sustenance in a beautifully donated artisan bowl. Following is a list of featured Empty Bowl restaurants and their days of participation (days/hours vary by location).
