My name is Angela Degliantoni and I’m the Supervising CMSP Case Manager at Hospitality House and I specialize in working one-on-one with guests and helping them build a case management plan to return to stability and housing.

Today, I’d like to tell you about a Veteran named Hank that I have been working with. He is 62 years old and was couch surfing for some time, trying to make ends meet before finding himself without any shelter and in need of support. Unfortunately, our shelter is often at max capacity throughout the year, but we work closely with County of Nevada on many of our shelter and housing endeavors, such has placing struggling families and individuals in motels and caring for them together. With the County’s help, we were able to place Hank inside a motel and soon after, Hank secured full-time employment. He is also currently on the waitlist for the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program, which is administered in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and helps homeless Veterans and their families access housing with supportive services. However, one hiccup we encountered is Hank lost his birth certificate. Our current action item is to obtain his birth certificate which is a challenge due to the length of time it takes to obtain in addition to the fees involved. Once we get this, there will be no delay in securing his VASH voucher when it’s his turn on the list. We have also been working on submitting housing applications, as well as getting him connected to his medical benefits through the VA. While Hank doesn’t have a home just yet, the support of this community helps Hank continue to move forward. If you’d like to help Hank, fellow Veterans, families and individuals reach housing, we invite you to make a donation to our cause at any time. Please see our website at hhshelter.org/donate or send your help to 1262 Sutton Way, Grass Valley, CA 95945. Together, we’ll help more families and individuals back into housing.

Normally at this time, we thank all the cook groups who came and cooked over the last week, but to keep our shelter safe, our cooking groups are supporting our meals by donating financial support and food, and Chef Gina is safely cooking all meals instead. We’d like to thank Wolf creek Co-housing, Telestream, Meals by Heels, First Baptist Church, BriarPatch Food Co-Op and SPD Markets for all their recent help.
