Nevada County Democrats Brighten the Holidays
For years, the Nevada County Democrats (NCD) have supported Hospitality House clients, ensuring guests and children receive Christmas gifts.
Erin and Peter Minette lead the project, with Erin recruiting volunteers to shop for children and Peter collecting donations and gift cards for adults. This support gives those experiencing homelessness a chance to feel a sense of community and purchase the items they need.
“For most guests, the holidays are difficult. These gifts help them feel special and valued,” shared Shelter Manager Sydnie Day.
Hospitality House Staff and the Minettes work together for months to make sure everyone receives meaningful gifts.
Case managers gather wish lists from parents, volunteers shop for the gifts, and the NCD delivers them to Hospitality House, so families receive what they asked for.
Volunteers, new and returning, enjoy helping. One shared that shopping for a child made her Christmas, since she has no family in the area.
Peter seeks support from local businesses, which often offer discounts and express gratitude for his efforts, sharing stories of friends and family members who have experienced homelessness.
This year, the NCD provided gifts for over 115 people, benefiting all involved.
Peter said, “Giving people hope and connection during the holidays is inspiring.”
Hospitality House thanks Peter, Erin, the NCD, and all volunteers for their dedication and support, which has a lasting impact on the community.
